Oluchi Nneka Akomah Agbaluwa: Remembering A YEAR LATER

Today marks 18 years since I encountered a remarkable woman named Oluchi Nneka Akomah, a name that resonates deeply within my heart and our community. In our culture, Oluchi was a figure of immense significance, often described as a woman of high stature, embodying rare and cherished virtues. She possessed an extraordinary visionary spirit, always filled with ambitious dreams and goals that aimed not just for personal success but for the betterment of everyone around her.

Oluchi was more than an outstanding organizer, devoted mother, and universal friend; she was a relentless advocate of peace and kindness. Her presence was a blessing, clearly reflecting God’s grace and love. She lived every day with a profound commitment to her faith, profoundly loving God and embodying the principles of her belief. Her life was a luminous testament to selflessness, constantly putting others before herself in every endeavor.

Our Marriage and Family

We tied the knot 17 years ago, and though it has been a year since she departed, her love and kindness continue to guide us. Our two daughters, Aliyah and Yael, are the most precious gifts she left behind. Oluchi lavished them with unconditional love, always willing to go to any lengths for their well-being, no matter the sacrifice required. She embodied the ideal qualities of a wife as outlined in the Bible, surpassing those standards in every way. For this reason, and many more, she will always be remembered fondly. She affectionately called me Sam, a name she found more appealing and used it as an intimate token of our bond.

Today, on the first anniversary of her passing, we celebrate her life not with sorrow, but with joy. Today, I pay tribute to her unparalleled love, kindness, greatness, presence, wisdom, and strength. Oluchi was a true warrior, facing every storm and challenge with unwavering determination and faith.

Oluchi’s days were saturated with prayer and a deep trust in Yehovah, the everlasting God who never fails us. For 17 beautiful years, we prayed together, confidently navigating our days according to God’s purpose. Her faith was not just a private affair but a communal commitment, radiating her belief that peace and kindness were the ultimate expressions of divine love. She mediated conflicts, fostered unity, and ensured that everyone around her felt the warmth of compassion and understanding.

She often said, “The journey to heaven is an individual race,” a phrase I cherish and ponder frequently. She reminded me of the personal relationship we must cultivate with God, even as we support one another through acts of kindness and love.

Oluchi joyfully adopted my family name and became Oluchi Nneka Agbaluwa, embracing our family’s legacy while bestowing upon it her unique blessings. Today, I kneel in prayer, my heart overflowing with gratitude. I thank God for bringing Oluchi into my life, knowing she profoundly influenced me, reaffirmed my purpose, and led me toward the great reward of having to continue the race to heaven’s gate.

Her essence remains with me, a guiding force, an ever-present reminder of the compassion, grace, and generosity that defined her life. Though I no longer have her beside me physically, her essence continues to lead me, shaping my actions and inspiring me to live a life reflective of her values.

Thank you, my dear Oluchi, for all you have done, your endless love, and the boundless kindness you shared with the world. We will reunite one day, and until then, I will honor your memory by continuing this journey with the same devotion to peace, kindness, and faith that you exemplified so beautifully.
